For the first quarter, I will be on maternity leave with my new daughter, Nora. In my absence, my classes were taught by Jim Skommesa, a history and English teacher, for the first three weeks. When Jim accepted a full-time position in Arizona, Pat Green agreed to step in for the remainder of my leave. Pat is a retired teacher from the NCHS Social Studies Department. I will be returning to the classroom in time for the second quarter.

Maternity Leave
For the first quarter, I will be on maternity leave with my new daughter, Nora. In my absence, my classes were taught by Jim Skommesa, a history and English teacher, for the first three weeks. When Jim accepted a full-time position in Arizona, Pat Green agreed to step in for the remainder of my leave. Pat is a retired teacher from the NCHS Social Studies Department. I will be returning to the classroom in time for the second quarter.
My Background
Raised in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, I earned my degree in History Secondary Education with a minor in Social Studies from Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo, MI). While I was in college, I had a great summer job working as a team leader at Aviation Challenge, and educational camp that is a part of Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. After graduation, I worked as a substitute teacher primarily at Kalamazoo Central High School, where I completed my student teaching. I also worked full-time at Sylvan Learning where I tutored students in a variety of subjects including reading, math, study skills and ACT Prep.
When my family relocated to Wyoming, I became part of the Social Studies department at Laramie High School. There I taught U.S. History, Advanced Placement U.S. History, Ancient Civilizations, African History, Asian History, European History, and a study skills course. I have spent the last two years as an Instructional Facilitator at Kelly Walsh High School. In this position I worked collaboratively with teachers in all different subject areas to enhance instruction and to raise student achievement. In 2009, I earned my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification in the area of Social Studies: History.
I am excited to be a part of the staff at NCHS and to be back in the history classroom working with students. This year I will be teaching 10th grade U.S. History and 11th grade World History.
